FROM ART TO ARCHITECTURE

ASSIGNMENT:

Derive a mapping from Brahms: Symphony No. 1 to design a school for music.

PROJECT GOAL:

A dynamic music academy that provides students with community gathering and individual intimate practice within a stimulating environment that is as vibrant as their music.

RESULTING PROGRAM:

Classrooms and administration
Practice rooms of various scales
3 performance spaces
Black box
Recital space/public atrium
Below ground locker room + student atrium/performance area

DETAILS:

The black box can reveal or conceal its sound to project outwards to the central atrium.
The wall separating the central atrium and recital hall can lift or lower to create public outdoor or private indoor performances.
