ASSIGNMNET/PROGRAM:

Design a building with a culinary school, restaurant, and garden.

PROJECT GOAL:

To create an engaging culinary space for all members of the community. From those attending the academy, to people who wish to learn about health, nutrition, and/or reestablish their connection to the environment.

PROCESS:

Sketch concepts inspired by principles of Vastu.

RESULT:

A culinary building with a void going through each of its 3 stories, where a green pillar growing food protrudes through.

DETAILS:

LEVEL 1 - Public Garden + Bar
Public garden with a private bar style dining experience. During the day, trainees from the culinary school cook here and learn from the certified chefs. Those dining are encouraged to watch, learn, and, on occasion, cook for themselves during hosted workshops. At night, the bar becomes a more intimate and sensual space. Moreover, those part of the community have access to the food growing from the beautiful central vines.

LEVEL 2: Culinary School
This is the primary educational sector for the culinary students. The central garden that mirrors that found on the first level serves as an area to socialize, study, and complete assignments. Meanwhile, students may pick fresh food to use in their classes.

LEVEL 3: Terrace Restaurant
This restaurant is divided into two experiences, the north end where the chefs cook in front of the diners and on occasion, host classes on eating nutritional, etc. In the south end is more traditional dining for those who wish for the intimacy of conversation with friends. Moreover, the space is transformational to accommodate larger parties of either scenario.
